PRODUCT CARE 

Every Bas and Lokes product is handcrafted from carefully selected natural materials. With thoughtful care, your piece will develop its own character and become more personal with use.

Variations in grain, texture and colour are natural characteristics of leather, suede and waxed canvas. They are part of what makes each piece unique and should not be considered imperfections.

 

GENERAL CARE

Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, excessive heat, humidity and rain.

Take care around oils, cosmetics, ink, alcohol, hand sanitiser and other substances that may stain or damage the material.

Avoid overfilling your bag or placing undue strain on its handles, straps, zippers or hardware.

When not in use, empty your bag and store it inside its dust bag in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place. Loosely fill bags with clean, acid-free tissue paper to help retain their shape.

Do not store your products in plastic.

If your piece becomes wet, gently blot away excess moisture with a clean, absorbent cloth and allow it to dry naturally at room temperature. Do not use a hairdryer, heater or other direct source of heat.

 

LEATHER

Leather naturally develops character, softness and patina over time.

For routine care, gently remove surface dust with a clean, dry and soft cloth.

Do not use household cleaners, disinfectant wipes or cleaning products not specifically intended for leather.

Leather conditioners and treatments may deepen the colour or alter the finish. Before applying any product, test it sparingly on an inconspicuous area or contact us for advice.

If the leather becomes wet, blot it gently without rubbing and allow it to dry naturally. Do not place it near direct heat.

For significant staining or damage, we recommend contacting us before attempting to clean the leather yourself.

 

SUEDE

Suede is a soft and tactile material that requires gentler care than smooth leather. Its nap may change direction with handling, creating natural variations in colour and texture.

Light surface dust may be removed using a clean, soft suede brush. Brush gently and avoid applying excessive pressure.

Do not apply leather conditioner, cream, polish or wax to suede.

Avoid rubbing wet or stained suede, as this may spread the mark or disturb the nap. Allow damp suede to dry naturally before gently brushing it to restore the surface.

Waterproofing sprays and suede treatments may alter the colour or appearance of the material. Contact us before applying any treatment to your product.

 

WAXED CANVAS

Waxed canvas is designed to develop creases, marks and tonal variations with use. These changes form part of its distinctive character.

To remove dry dirt or dust, gently brush the surface with a clean, soft brush or wipe it with a dry cloth.

Where necessary, lightly wipe the affected area with a clean cloth dampened with cold water. Avoid soaking the fabric.

Do not use soap, detergent, stain remover or household cleaning products.

Do not machine wash, dry clean, tumble dry or iron waxed canvas, as these processes may remove or damage its protective finish.

Over time, the waxed finish may soften or wear in areas of frequent use. Should your product eventually require reproofing, please contact us before applying wax or another treatment so we can advise you appropriately.

 

HARDWARE AND ZIPPERS

Gently wipe hardware with a clean, dry and soft cloth.

Avoid contact with perfumes, chemicals, salt water and abrasive surfaces. Natural changes to the finish may occur over time through handling and use.

Do not force a zipper if it encounters resistance. Check that the fabric or contents of the bag are clear before carefully moving it again.

 

PROFESSIONAL CLEANING AND REPAIRS

Do not machine wash or dry clean your Bas and Lokes product.

For significant staining, accidental damage or repairs, please contact us before attempting treatment. Include photographs of the affected area so we can recommend the most appropriate next step.

We are always happy to assess whether a Bas and Lokes piece can be repaired. Where a repair is possible, we will provide a quotation before any work is undertaken.
